We live in a world that is often driven by external values. How do I look? How much money do I have? How do I get more? Our obsession with external stuff has left us internally bankrupt. Likewise, while technology is an amazing tool, it can, and often does, distract us from our spiritual center. We create virtual lives for ourselves in an attempt to make up for our lack of fulfillment. So from young to old, we as a nation, seem to have our attention directed outward. Many of the social problems we are facing today come from this tendency to live life from the outside in rather than the inside out!
“Most of the problems people face in life can be traced to a one of two things:
● A distorted view of self ... or
● A distorted view of God ...” Tim Hansel
The emphasis on objective test scores in education over the past decade did little to turn the attention of our youth inward toward the spiritual journey - which is also an indispensable part of the human adventure! Everywhere you turn, you encounter people of all ages who are disconnected from their spirituality ... and consequently, from themselves. To fill our void of incompleteness, we do as we are instructed, attempt to earn money, we buy the latest gadgets, and we engage in superficial relationships, only to find that we still lack happiness and satisfaction.
We propose that happiness can be found when a person takes the times to get in touch with their authentic self. The authentic self is who you are at your core and encompasses the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of your life. There are several different ways that you can get in touch with this authentic self. We have created a podcast, Bible Lit, that will read through the Bible using techniques from Literature with the hope of getting people to see what the Bible actually says as opposed to what people think it says.
We also have some opportunities for you to journal and reflect upon your life. Journaling is key because it can be cathartic. It will allow you to step out of the hectic “now” to be truly present. It can serve later as part of the story of your life that will help you look back and see who you used to be.
